From the President...
Jeff.jpgFirst I would like to wish all of the LGRA members and their families a happy and Safe New Year. I hope all of you enjoyed the holiday season and have not eaten too many milk and cookies like I did.  Looks like I need to start looking for that New Years diet like many others!
Now on to the business at hand with LGRA and the 2010 New Year:   At this time LGRA needs your help more than ever.  Over the past few years a core group of dedicated folks have put more time and effort into running this association than could have been asked of them. These men and women have produced two incredible rodeos, many country western dances and countless bar nights in the tri state area.  They all should be commended for the dedication they have shown to this association.  That being said, our goal in the New year is to involve our entire membership and recruit  new members to not only make LGRA function, but help it to thrive and be the organization we all want it to be.
This new focus and direction is to encompass not only rodeo-related events but all Western-related  functions, fundraisers and good old friendly hoe-downs.  And involvement can be on any level – from a couple hours of your valuable help to a place on the board.  Additionally, we also need to know what you the membership wants to see over the next year, some feed back as to why you joined this association and a little about your own talents and how you might be able to help LGRA in 2010.
On January 24th we will be having our first meet and greet of 2010 at Woody’s Bar in Center City Philly from 4-6 p.m.  During this get-together we will be having our short monthly meeting.  It is open to all and I would like to ask anyone who has an interest in this association to please come out and join us. This will be an open forum for ideas, a chance to set a calendar of events for the 2010 year and to find out how we can actively involve and better use the talents of our members.  There will be pizza for anyone who gets the munchies and the bar will be open for drinks. I would hope to see many of your smiling faces at this meeting to support LGRA for the following year!

Note From The Trustee...
Dear Fellow Members,

I hope that everyone has had a great holiday, and here’s hoping for a happy and healthy New Year. I have been honored to have served as LGRA’s trustee for the past three years, and look forward to helping the association in any way I can in the upcoming year. In the meantime, I wanted to update everyone on the convention from last November. I travelled to Toronto, where I attended meetings along with two other LGRA members where the representatives from the 29 IGRA associations get together to brainstorm and change any rodeo rules and regulations. It’s been a tough year for a lot of associations, including LGRA, who had our second day of rodeo cancelled due to a terrible electric storm on Sunday. However we are optimistic on the prospects of 2010, and need your help, great or small. If you would like to be more involved with the rodeo, I really recommend you contact our president, Jeff Bolognese, who would be more than happy to talk with you. I’d also be glad to answer any questions or guide you in the right direction.

I will be attending IGRA University this upcoming week in Las Vegas, where I am coordinating the 2010 IGRA Dance Competition. My hope is that next year Philadelphia can have some representation and compete, since the heart of our country-western community had grown from the dance fanatics in Philly, New Hope, New Brunswick, and beyond. I hope to see you all out at Woody’s or Nevermore soon!

Very best regards
Ernie Bowers
