In 1984 CGRA reportedly had a major dispute with Washoe County Fairgrounds and the Sands Hotel, which was followed by the seizure of the rodeo books by the IRS.

The Comstock Gay Rodeo Association and the National Reno Gay Rodeo were history, but Phil Ragsdale and Joe Sedlack had made a major mark on gay history.

The Golden State Gay Rodeo Association (GSGRA) was formed

The Arizona Gay Rodeo Association (AGRA) was formed and the CGRA Mounted Drill team invited to Madison Square Garden but was unable to perform.
