Vice President

It is with a huge amount of pride that I announce that Mr. CGRA 2012 John Beck and Ms. CGRA 2012 Paula Scougal have met their requirements to compete at the 2013 IGRA Royalty Competition being held at IGRA Finals coming up in October. For those of you attending Finals, and able to be there earlier in the week, please try and attend the portions of the IGRA Royalty Competition that you are able, and help cheer on John and Paula. These two have done an amazing job this year raising money for CGRA and assisting with the organization when able. Please support them in return.

Also, it is with a very heavy heart that I have to announce that Gia Diamante (Dailen Martin) has decided to resign as Miss CGRA 2012. He thought a lot about this choice and has made this decision after much soul searching. Please support him in his decision and thank him for all of the hard work he also did with and for CGRA. The money that he raised for his charity partner "Cowboy to Freedom Up" will still be presented to them at CGRA's Night of Sharing coming up on December 1, 2012.

Plans are in the making for the Past Royalty Show and Royalty Competition coming up on November 30th and December 1st. Please mark your calendars for these two very important dates! And watch out for more information coming out regarding these two nights.

Thank you so much for your continued support of our organization!

Wow, what do we have here? New people on the board?

Since I'm known as the oldest, prettiest, smartest???? LOL And probably the longest running person on the board. It's going to be a very, very, exciting year ahead of us. But Please! Remember we all have to make it fun! It takes a family of Unity to work together. When working together, thus building a stronger community.

Winter weight gain

If your horse in on the skinny side, take steps now to put some pounds on him/her before winter arrives. A horse with a good body weight will fare better on chilly weather because a little fat provides insulation from the cold as well as a stockpile of energy to maintain his/her core body temperature.

But you don't want to get him/her too fat, either. A good target is a body condition score (BCS) of 5, which means his/her ribs aren't visible but can be easily felt, the fat around his/her tailhead is soft and "spongy," his withers are rounded, and his/her shoulders and neck blend smoothly with the rest of this body. If you're unsure of how to assess your horse's condition, consult with your veterinarian you'll want to rule out any illnesses or dental troubles that might be causing your horse to be too thin.

If you do want to add pounds to your horse, you'll need to boost his/her caloric intake safely. A diet too rich in sugars or carbohydrates can increase the rick of serious health issues, including colic and laminitis.

Here are some tactics you can try:

  • Add another meal of hay to his/her daily ration, or feed it free-choice.
High quality, leafy hay is less likely to be wasted than coarse, stemmy hay. A slow feeder, which allows a horse to pull out only a few stems with each bite, enable you to offer more hay at a time while also reducing waste.
  • Switch to a higher calorie feed.
Many slim horse are slow, picky eaters who may not finish bigger portions of their usual grain. Instead, try a feed that will provide more calories in the same size meal. To avoid health risks, look for feed that supply extra calories from fat rather than sugars or carbohydrates.
  • Add oil to his/her existing ration.
Corn or other vegetable oils add calories to a horse's meal in the form of fat. And, since fat is digested differently, without the risks posed by sugars of carbohydrates, oil is one of the safest ways to put weight on a horse. Most horses will willingly eat up to a half cup of oil at each feeding. As you implement your new feeding plan, keep track of your progress with notes and pictures of your horse's body, then taper off the extra calories before he gains too much weight. Obesity can also cause serious health problems.

Howdy all my rodeo brothers and sisters, I would like to thank everyone who came out last Saturday to support your royalty team at Charlies. We had a lot of fun. If you weren't there you missed a great show. Like always John made us all laugh so hard it hurt a few of us. (Rich & Me) we both have a few bad disks in our backs. Hang in there Rich, hope you can get your pain under control.

Now for IGRA competition in Fort Worth, Texas in October I am happy to say my wife is behind me 100% at first she didn't want me to run, but last evening she said ( you only get this chance once in your life, for me to go for it and bring back the Black Sash.) So I am happy to say HELP, naw just kidding. But I promise to give my 150% in this competition. Keep your fingers, toes and whatever else you can cross to see John and I bring the Black sashes back to Colorado. I went to K.C.'s rodeo, I am hoping to be a timer there, that would be my third rodeo in a row that I timed, and when I get back Linda and I are going to take a short Vacation driving down hwy 285 and go to some Pueblo's. We decided that I needed a get away with the wife, no horses, no animals just her and I. This is going to be my Birthday present from Linda, cool huh. This way I can relax and get ready for competition.
