Thanks all for taking the time to pass this year's recommended changes to the By Laws. Keeping our association current with modern technologies and common business practices is vital. Thanks to you we have done that. We appreciate your time and effort in making this process work. See you at Stampede!!!

ASGRA Outing to the Dave Marin Rodeo

On Sunday, August 10, The Prince William County (PWC) Fair in Manassas, VA will be having the Dave Martin Rodeo. We want to organize a group of cowboys and cowgirls to head out to the Fair and Rodeo. Both the Fair and the Rodeo are an excellent time with the usual midway rides and games, livestock and rodeo competition in addition to all the awesome fair food. If you are interested in this event, contact ASGRA member Patrick Hunter 202-352-2356 by July 18th for more details.

Visually Impaired Cowboy Ropes and Goats

First Gay Marriage at an IGRA Rodeo

Who says a visual handicap can stand in the way of cowboy competition? IGRA has one and he is having a ball doing it. Rodney, a professional chef, sent me a few photos of his competition in the Palm Springs rodeo last month. Way to go Rodney! Some of you may have seen his Yahoo group posting I've included below. We are looking to see more of Rodney around the circuit, and the best of luck to you cowboy!

Hello IGRA Members. My name is Rodney Shaw. I'm a Member of GSGRA, GPSC

I'm The First Visually Impaired Cowboy to ever compete in Rodeos in the United States I Believe.

I competed in my First Rodeo in Palm Springs, California in MAY 2-4-2008 I Competed in Calf Roping on Foot and Goat Dressing I almost caught my calf both days and I shaved 6 seconds of my time in Goat Dressing despite Face planting in the arena on Sunday.

Rodney attemps calf roping, loop is seen clearly as it hurles tward the calf but too high to catch Rodney is holding the goat's rear legs while his partner adjusts the underware Rodney in the middle of a face plant Rodney whth his face fully planted just short of the finish line

I'm a lonesome cowboy
No place to ride
I wanna be alone again
I wanna rope and ride
I wanna throw my lariat
Across the prairie wide
Cross the prairie wide

Ti ya whoppi ty-o'ming wind is calling me
Ti ya whoppi ty-o'ming that's where I wanta be
I'll saddle up for old Wyoming
Folks there wear a smile
Can't wait to meet a saddle pal
Or a waitin' bride
I wanna hear the lonesome call
Of the coyote cry

Wy-o-ming wind
Is call-in' me home
Drawing, cattle drive Lord I wanna go back home
Please lead me home
Believe I'll saddle up and ride away

Ti ya whoppi ty-o'ming wind is calling me
Ti ya whoppi ty-o'ming that's where I wanta be
Another day is dawnin'
Can't seem to rest
I gotta hit the trail again
Head Wyoming way
Hang my hat in Jackson Hole
Live the cowboy way

Wy-om-ing wind
Is call-in' me home
Lord I wanna go back home
Please lead me home
Believe I'll saddle up and ride away

Wy-o-ming wind
Is call-in' me home
Lord I wanna go back home
Please lead me home
Believe I'll saddle up and ride away

Don and James in black cowboy atire and straw hats with the female preacher in black robe

Our friends Don Harris and James Bowman got officially hitched in a ceremony held in the arena following the Calgary rodeo on June 29, 2008.

Don said "We met last September at the Atlantic Stampede; he was a member of FGRA and I'm the Trustee from GGRA. We only thought it fitting to get hitched on the floor of the arena on Saturday evening immediately following the last event... so that's what we did!"

Don asked Brian Helander if anyone else had ever gotten married at a rodeo, and he seemed to recall one about 12 years ago, but that was a commitment ceremony, not a marriage
