From the Rodeo DirectorThe 15th Annual Atlantic Stampede Rodeo was held September 8-10 and what a rodeo it was!We had a lot of transition this year, all beginning the middle of May and the board had a lot of work to do in a short amount of time, including deciding whether or not to have rodeo at all this year. As I am sure you are aware by now, we decided to hold Stampede. A lot of people went to extraordinary lengths to make sure that every detail was covered, from permits and licenses to vendors, DJ's, food and the reason we gather…competitors in the arena. One person in particular went the distance to make sure we had all of our "i's" dotted and "t's" crossed, was our Assistant Rodeo Director, Jimmy Erhart. He made the journey from New Jersey to attend meetings and kept us all in line when it came to meeting deadlines. A big THANK YOU to you, Jimmy!!!! I also want to thank everyone that came out to support our event. The crowds were larger in all four of our venues this year. The vendors were happy, as you all shopped their wares. The food vendor Vista Concessions was happy. This was his first adventure with us and was very impressed with how big we are, both in our hunger and our generosity. Keep us in mind for next year, and save the dates…… September 7-9, 2007!

The Passing of a Beloved Member, Born on October 3rd, 1993 at approximately 11am, the first Dolly Madison Race was run at Atlantic Stampede. Dolly drew fans and competitors from around the country for more than a decade. During the set-up process for this years' Atlantic Stampede, we found that she was damaged. It was later determined her injuries were too dramatic and she was beyond repair. A quiet, respectful service was held for our beloved Dolly Madison Monday September 11th at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds. Dolly's father and care giver, Gaither Pennington has promised there will be another rendition of the charity race run at future Atlantic Stampedes. The ASGRA family request no flowers or cards be sent. In lieu, if you would like to make a contribution to the charity we had chosen for the race this year, Food & Friends, please contact us at our PO Box for further instructions. The ASGRA Family

ASGRA History In ReviewThirteen Spurs Newsletter, November 1994The Rodeo That Almost Wasn't
By Roger Holmin Here is a brief synopsis of the final days that transpired before Atlantic Stampede -94 and how we ended up at the Anne Arundel County Fairgrounds. At 3 pm on Monday before the rodeo, we were informed our Clear Springs Farm site permits had been denied due to legal complications. We were forced to seek another site. I called an emergency rodeo committee meeting for that night and requested as many board members as possible be present. By 6:30 Monday, Annette Post, and I were looking through the gates at the Anne Arundel fairgrounds. We had been told about the facility "accidentally" at 4:30 pm by a ferrier who was shoeing Annette's horse in preparation for our rodeo competition. Later that night we decided we had no choice other than to pursue the fairgrounds. Other associations with less fortitude and dedication would have given up, facing so many negatives in the final hours. But by 3 pm Tuesday we had signed a contract with the fairgrounds officials and began the task of moving the rodeo. On Wednesday, we took possession of the property, began working with supplier, vendors and ASGRA members to prepare the new site.Early Thursday morning, the tents began going up, by 9 am new permits were secured. By noon, bleachers and temporary stalling were going into place. The competitors with horses began arriving Thursday afternoon. By Friday evening, the arena was built, livestock in place and horses, competitors, and officials from across the country had arrived. The only thing we still worried about was getting word out to the spectators by Saturday morning. This required a massive public relations effort and telephone work. But the word got out to most and the crowds started to show up, glad to have found the elusive rodeo site and very ready to rodeo.
I want to personally thank everyone who pulled through in those final days, and during the rodeo itself. Unfortunately there are too many people to mention all by name. You know who you are. You are truly dedicated to ASGRA and I am proud to be associated with you. Thank you.
October BirthdaysBirthday Congratulations to the following ASGRA members who celebrate in October:
