From the President

Howdy all,

Atlantic Stampede is just around the corner. If you haven't already, mark your calendar for September 8-10, 2006.

One of the most common misconceptions about Atlantic Stampede is that it's the Board's rodeo, and is up to the Board of Directors to make it happen. This is simply not true.

Atlantic Stampede is ASGRA's rodeo, not just the Board. Every member of the association can play a part in the production and success of OUR event.

We have many opportunities for everyone that wants to be part of this to volunteer. No one is asked to give up his or her entire weekend of dancing, partying and rodeo watching. We only ask a couple of hours of work. You can certainly give more, but that's up to you. This is our biggest event of the year and we need all the assistance we can get. To volunteer, go to the Stampede 2006 link from the main web page and follow the link at the bottom to the Volunteer form.

Have you ever wanted to be the person that gives the buckle to its winner?? You can sponsor one of the many event buckles that are available. Check the Buckle Sponsor page to see which ones you want to sponsor.

Now onto business…. Several positions on the Board of directors became available when I assumed the Presidents role. I am happy to announce that Jackie Thompson has been appointed as Vice President for the remainder of the 2006-year; Mark Whiting has been appointed as our Fundraising & Sponsorship Chair; Patrick Hunter has been appointed as our Public Relations Chair; John Stortz has been appointed as our Rodeo Director for Atlantic Stampede 2006, and Lance H. has been appointed as our Elections Chair for 2006. I welcome all of you to your respective positions and look forward to working with you.

During this years' rodeo, two board positions are up for election/reelection. Those are for the positions of Secretary and Vice President. If you have ever wanted to serve the members of ASGRA as a member of the Board, now is your chance to do that. I invite you to check out the requirements of these positions as they are listed in the Bylaws and Standing Rules that can be found under the Membership link on the web page.

I look forward to seeing all of you and your friends at Atlantic Stampede this September, as well as serving as your President for the next year.

Mike S.
ASGRA President

ASGRA Awards

Howdy Folks,

We are currently accepting nominations for our Golden Lariat and Outstanding Volunteer awards.

The coveted Golden Lariat award is given by ASGRA to individuals who have contributed an unimaginable amount of their time and efforts to the betterment of our association. Their volunteering accomplishments are exceptional and have provided ASGRA focus and achievement that would not have attained without these exceptional volunteers.

To nominate someone, simply send an e-mail to the ASGRA secretary () with the person's name and a paragraph or two of why you believe they should be honored with the award.

The first inductees were chosen in 1999 and the list has grown to include the following individuals.

(1999) Mike Lentz(1999) Les Boggs
(2000) Billy Collison(2001) Patrick Hunter
(2002) Mike Sanders(2003) Gaither Pennington
(2003) Mary Lynn Logsdon(2005) Scott Smiley

The Outstanding Rodeo Volunteer Award includes a rodeo buckle similar to the one pictured here. This award is given for outstanding service in preparation for or during the rodeo. This award will be presented at our Rodeo volunteer awards party to be held sometime between October and next February, date to be announced.

To make a nomination just send an e-mail to the ASGRA secretary () including the person's name and a paragraph why you think they deserve this award. The ASGRA board of directors will chose the winner at a board meeting after the conclusion of our rodeo.
