What Happens in Vegas…

Won’t Stay in Vegas This Time!

It was a very fun and busy weekend in Las Vegas for those who attended IGRA University February 17-19.  ASGRA was very well represented with Michael Lentz, Lonni La Bel and Mike Sanders teaching courses and Jymmye Jaymes, Jon Hoehn, Ivan Cuadrado and Ric Legg all attending.  Here are a few statistics about the IGRA 2006 University in Las Vegas:

With all known income and expenses figures in, the event had excess revenue of $68.53

·         67 paid students

·         23 Instructors and Staff (many attended classes as well)

·         17 Associations Represented

·         47 Certificates of Achievement Awarded

·         4 Associate Degrees in Rodeo Web Design Awarded

·         8 Associate Degrees in Community Service Awarded

·         5 Associate Degrees in Rodeo Arts Awarded

·         3 Bachelor’s Degrees in Rodeo Arts Awarded

·         2 students are only a few credits away from a Master’s Degrees in Rodeo Arts

It was an excellent weekend and NGRA did a fantastic job of organizing both University and social events for all the attendees.

TROT Recruitment Seminar

Do you have the riding skills to be one of the best Trail Riders in the State?  We are seeking the best Trail Riders in the State of Maryland and are inviting them to attend the TROT Search & Rescue Mounted Team's Recruitment Night Seminar.

WHO: You!  Do you and your horse have the skills needed to become part of the only mounted search and rescue team in Maryland?   Providing this unique service to local authorities faced with a search and rescue incident is the most challenging and rewarding way for dedicated equestrians to serve their community.  The team is hoping to fill a limited number of entry level mounted search and rescue positions.

WHAT: Learn what's required to join the team. We will answer questions about:
- the type of horse that makes a good search mount
- the special equipment needed
- how a search works
- and how a volunteer mounted team serves as public service resource

WHEN:  Friday May 5th 2006 at 7:00PM until 8:30PM (Doors open at 6:30).

WHERE: John Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory, 11100 Johns Hopkins Road Laurel MD 20723. APL is located on Johns Hopkins Road, approximately 1/2 mile west of U.S. Route 29.  Go to the main lobby entrance and follow signs. Notice: All attendees must present a valid government issued photo identification (i.e. driver's license) in order to gain entry into the building.

PREREQUISITES: To be accepted into the training program, you must meet the following requirements:
- Be at least 21 years old and have ownership privileges to a suitable mount.
- Pass a Horse and Rider evaluation with your horse (Riding Helmets required).
- Hold a valid State issued driver's license and submit to a criminal background check.
- Have ready and easy access to a registered tow vehicle and horse trailer.
- Must have easy access to email, text messaging and a cell phone.
- Horse and rider must have the physical ability to work under saddle for a minimum of 6 continuous hours and without assistance tack, mount and dismount your own horse.

News You Can Use

New Jersey folks!

We received this request for assistance from 4-H of Hunterdon County for a farm in Morristown off of Spring Valley Road.  The owner is in need of placing animals for free adoption to good homes.  Animals up for adoption include:  4 dairy cows, 2 bulls, 2 male ponies, rabbits, cats, pigs, sheep, llamas, horse, 2 peacocks, and 2 Canadian reindeer.  Some of the animals have papers but never have been bred or shown and some are old. Contact:  Elaine Dill  or by phone (H)908-490-1035 (leave a message and she'll call you back)

Do you know of a horse rescue in Green Township?  There is a woman with 2 horses she needs to place -  one is 25 and can be lightly ridden the other is 24 and a companion animal only (bad arthritis in his knee).  She is having a baby next month and won’t be able to keep them.
