We once again held our election of Board officers during Stampede this year. Congratulations to Gaither Pennington (President; 2 year term) and to Lonni LaBel, a.k.a. Reddi Whip (Trustee; 3 year term). We had no one submit their name for Treasurer. If you are interested in serving in this position (2-year term), please contact ASGRA's Secretary, Frank Harrell.

Our events could not have been done without the tireless efforts of our volunteers. Many worked long hot hours, some a few hours in the air-conditioned hotel. It doesn't matter where you worked, THANK YOU for your willingness to give up even an hour of your time to help make this event a success.

Mike Sanders, ASGRA Vice Presiden

Royalty Roundup

The ASGRA Royalty 2006 Contest was held in conjunction with Atlantic Stampede, Thursday September 8th and Friday September 9th. For those who may not be aware what is required of our contestants, allow me to share with you.

We have 4 Royalty positions available within ASGRA: Mr., Ms., Miss (female impersonator) and MsTer (male impersonator). Each contestant is required to raise a minimum of $250 for a 501(c)3 charity to be eligible to compete. This year's contestants raised over $1,600. They must compete in Personal Interview, where they show their knowledge of ASGRA and IGRA history, as well as the rodeo events; the Western Wear category is where they show off their best country/western duds; Public Presentation category is where we find out how quickly they think on their feet with questions such as "As Mr./Ms./Miss/MsTer ASGRA you are invited to go on a local radio talk show and you are asked, 'why gay rodeo?' What would be your response and how would you convince the listeners to attend your rodeo?"

There are 2 categories where competing is optional…Entertainment and Horsemanship. If the contestant opts to not compete Entertainment, they must raise an additional minimum $150 and compete in Horsemanship. If they opt to not compete Horsemanship, they must raise an additional minimum $150 and compete in Entertainment. They cannot opt out of both categories.

Each contestant must make 70% of the total possible score to win the title, which equals out to 105 points times the total number of judges. It doesn't matter how many people compete for each position (1 or many), if they do not make the minimum number of points, they will not win the title. Even if there is only 1 contestant for a title, he/she still has to "make the grade"…it's not a 'gimmie' for anyone.

I am pleased to announce the 2006 ASGRA Royalty Team:
Mr. ASGRA - Dale Morris
MsTer ASGRA - Anonymous Childs
Miss ASGRA - Destiny B. Childs

Congratulations on a job well done! Be safe, have fun, HOLD ON!!! The fun is just beginning. Do us proud on the 2006 rodeo circuit and show the rest of IGRA what it means to be Royalty!

As they begin their reign as ASGRA Royalty, come out and support them in their fundraising efforts. A list of their charities will be included in the November newsletter.

Mike Sanders, ASGRA Vice President

ASGRA is still looking for delegation members for the 2005 International Gay Rodeo Association Convention in Calgary, Alberta, Canada for the weekend of October 20-23. Partial reimbursement of expenses is available for our participants. This is a great way to visit a wonderful city and find out more about the workings of ASGRA and IGRA. Please contact ASGRA Trustee, Michael Lentz (trustee@asgra.org or 301-770-9363) if you would like to be a delegate.

IGRA Finals Rodeo 2005 Dallas, Texas November 10-13, 2005

Dear IGRA Members, Past and Present IGRA Royalty and Association Royalty Team members,
I would like to call everyone to help out in this time of need. By now all of you know about the hurricane that hit New Orleans and the Gulf region. As you also know, people in this area lost everything. Many of the men and women of the GLBT community are without their HIV medications. Many of these victims have been taken to the Astrodome in Houston, Texas. The Montrose Clinic in Houston takes care of the many patients that reside there, but now they have stepped up to the plate to help out with the additional burden of new clients that have arrived in their area. They are greatly in need of money to help deal with this influx of new clients. I am asking everyone to please do what you can to donate funds to this much needed relief.

We at IGRA are working hard along with many of our members around the country to achieve this goal. Please mail your donations to the address below. Checks should be made out to IGRA and have 'Montrose Clinic donation' listed in the memo section. IGRA treasurer David Hill has set up an account to handle these donations. All donations received by October 9 will be sent to the Clinic at that time. A second check will be sent post-Finals with any monies received through the end of Finals. Also watch for the Women in Black (Female Action Figures) at Finals this year as the money we raise will go toward this effort as well. Please feel free to contact me directly concerning this effort. Thank you in advance for your generosity.
