Howdy all,
Over Presidents Weekend several ASGRA members attended the 6th Annual IGRA University at the American Airlines Training & Conference Center in Ft. Worth, TX.

Negotiating Win-Win Hotel Contracts, Hosting IGRA Convention and Finals, Community Outreach, Rodeo Resources, Growth & Development, Rodeo Volunteers and a 2-day session devoted strictly to Royalty were among the classes offered. ASGRA Trustee Michael Lentz led Knowing Your Value to the Community, JR Key led Web Design and Usability as well as Effective Branding & Marketing and I led Gender Issues and a discussion and show-and-tell session on the MsTer category, the newest IGRA Royalty Team member.

While there was plenty of learning that went on, there was also plenty of time for socializing and the ever-popular Bar Crawl, hosted by our Grand Sponsor, Bud Light. The Cedar Springs area of Dallas may never be the same after IGRA's visit! American Airlines hosted a wonderful tour of their C. R. Smith Museum.

Bud Light issued an attendance challenge. The Association with the most members in attendance would win 10 cases of Bud Light. While I'm not sure which Association won, ASGRA put on a good show with 10 members.

Committee Chairs Still Needed!

Greetings all,
I am very pleased to announce that Ric Legg has stepped up to the plate and accepted the position of Membership Chair for this year. Ric will be taking over all the duties related to your needs. Welcome aboard, Ric!!

JR Key, who has been our Public Relations Chair for the last year or so, has found it necessary to step down from this position for personal reasons. JR has done a wonderful job as our PR Chair and I would like to thank him for his diligence and attention to detail.

We have several positions waiting to be filled by someone just like you. The Social & Entertainment and Public Relations Chairs are vacant. If you're interested in either of these positions, please contact either Frank Harrell or Gaither Pennington. The IGRA Rodeo Resources Committee is proud to announce its new ONLINE RODEO RESOURCES at www.igra.com. Resources for planning and running your rodeo and maintaining a high level of compliance now are easily available for Rodeo Directors and their planning committees on-demand. Chapter sections will be updated regularly to assure current accuracy. Please be sure to visit our new "Official Logos" download page, which features all-new logos in high-resolution bitmap print format (CMYK), vector format (EPS) and web resolution format (RGB)

Rodeo Resources also released the 2005 Rodeo Resources Guidebook CD at the University IGRA Board meeting in Dallas. This CD contains all the material presented on the webpage, plus additional materials and a single file for printing the entire guidebook. To conserve bandwidth, please limit printing from the website to immediate needs. The Rodeo Resources Committee wishes to recognize the hard work of IGRA's new webmaster Frank Harrell whose efforts have made this possible. The committee also wishes to thank James Ramey, Michael Fricke, Tamara Marks, Bryn Geerdes, Frank Elam, Brian Helander, Larry Lindstrom, Tommy Channel, and many others for their contributions to the 2005 edition.

ASGRA trail rides are the first Sunday of the month at 11:00am!

Regardless of the weather, ASGRA's monthly trail rides are held at Piscataway Ranch in Clinton, MD at 11:00 am on the following days:
March 6th: Prepare for St.Paddy's Day with an invigorating trot through the crisp Maryland woodlands!
April 3rd: Welcome in the early spring flowers with a leisurely trot through the field and forest! For further information, contact Patrick at 202-352-2356.

ASGRA is hosting its 14th annual Rodeo Training School the weekend of April 30 " May 1, 2005. Training sessions begin at 9:00 am each day and run until about 5 pm with a noon break. Lunch will be provided by ASGRA for all participants. The event will take place at Classic Rodeo Ranch, in York Springs, PA. The ranch is located off Route 15 just north of the MD/PA state line near Gettysburg. It is about 1 ½ hours from downtown DC by car. The school will include beginning and intermediate instruction and practice in calf roping on foot, chute dogging, steer riding, and steer decorating. All events will be run both days. There is a charge of $25 per student for calf roping on foot $50 per student for chute dogging and steer riding; and $50 per team (2 person teams) for steer decorating up to a maximum fee of $100 per student. Fees cover the same event for both days and apply even if you only attend for one day. Classic Rodeo Ranch allows camping on the grounds and can provide trailer hookups for $35 for the weekend. ASGRA will not be making group accommodations at any hotels. However, there are several hotels available within 15 miles of Classic Rodeo Ranch. Pre-registration is required in order for us to provide adequate supplies and livestock for the weekend. (See the enclosed Rodeo School brochure and registration forms.) Spaghetti Dinner Benefit

Remember all the fun you had as a kid at those spaghetti dinners that you and your parents went to in church basements or firehouses? Well, we are bringing it back...with a country twist. The 2005 Royalty Team is doing something a little different. They are hosting a Spaghetti Dinner to benefit the victims of the Tsunami disaster.

When: Saturday March 19th
Where: The Odd Fellows Temple

Time: 7:00pm
Cost: $12

Cash bar and dancing will be available.

DANCE * DANCE * DANCE

Lambda DanceSport Association promotes partnership dancing for same-gender couples in the LGBT community. Lots of great dance opportunities of all kinds - check it out on their website: www.LambdaDanceSport.org

Capital Country Dance Club is a non-profit whose purpose is to bring the joy of dancing to the GLBT community. CCDC hosts C&W dancing from 8pm-midnight at Generations Dance Studio on the second Saturday of the month. Lesson starts at 8; dance starts at 9. Generations Dance Studio is located at 816 N. Saint Asaph St. in Alexandria, VA. CCCD also sponsors open dancing from 7:30-10:30pm every Tuesday at De Lounge in Wheaton, MD. Early in the morning on February 10, ASGRA lost another beloved member. Sam Marsh (better known as Courtney Lovelace) passed away after a brief battle with cancer. There will be a Celebration of Life held for Courtney on Saturday March 12th at Remington's from 4-8pm. Courtney was a former Miss Remington's as well as a former Miss ASGRA. Special performances are being scheduled to honor Courtney. All tips given to the entertainers this day will be given to Courtney's family to help defray medical and funeral costs. There will be a cash bar and food will also be catered by Remington's.
