A Presidential Update Guys and gals:
Since my last letter to you, I'm pleased to update you on a few important accomplishments.
  • The By-Laws Committee, under the leadership of Jason Hays appropriately began its work by soliciting advice and guidance from the members as it tackles the first comprehensive revision of By-Laws since the Association's founding.
  • The Executive Committee is finally complete with the Board's approval of Beth Brockelman to serve as Secretary for the remainder of the current term.
  • The Rodeo Roundtable under the leadership of Mike Lentz has begun its formal work preparing for Stampede 2002.
  • The Board has approved Rodeo Events and Training Chair Matt Komornik's slate of officials for Stampede 2002.
  • Six proposals for Stock Contractor have been solicited, enabling us to select this year's stock contractor in the near future.
  • Membership continues to grow through the efforts of Mike Sanders, our Membership Chairman.
  • Treasurer Scott Smiley has mastered the books and is finalizing the Association's 2001 tax documents.
  • The ASGRA website under the skillful hands of Frank Harrell has had more than 10,000 hits thus far this year.
Although the list goes on, I just wanted to give you an idea of the wonderful work the Board has been able to accomplish despite being seriously short handed. We continue to need willing hands to help with public relations, entertainment, fundraising and volunteer coordination. If you have an interest in providing leadership or support in any of these areas, please contact a member of the Board. I encourage you to become as active in the Association as possible. Please take a moment to offer any help that you can. Your help can make all the difference in the world.

Sincerely,
Gaither Pennington
President, ASGRA

Did you know
that several businesses have offered ASGRA member discounts on purchases when you present your ASGRA membership card?

  • Remington's - no cover charge on Friday and Saturday nights,
  • 10% discount on purchases at Carol's Western Wear,
  • 10% discount on purchases at Red River Western Wear,
  • An average of 27.5% discount on Avis rental cars (for personal, business or rodeo use)
  • Plus you save about $10 on weekend passes for Stampede (when ordered at renewal time)
  • You also get a copy of our newsletter Thirteen Spurs.
On the business side, if you have moved, changed your name or phone number, gotten a new email address, please let me know. I am trying to keep the membership database up to date and can only do so if I have all your current information. By keeping your information current, you will continue to get your newsletter, you will get membership renewal forms, election information, invitations to the volunteer awards party, etc.

One of the ways I communicate with the membership is by email. It's quick, easy and I can get to most of you in one shot. If I do not have your email address, you may get left out of the loop on things like membership and board meeting announcements or special events. So make sure that I have your current email address. (Note: if you would prefer to not get emails, please let me know that as well and I will remove your name from my distribution.)

Did you know that if you are a competitor, you must have a current membership in one of the IGRA associations to compete? If you have not renewed your ASGRA membership, now that the rodeo season has begun is the time to do so.

That's it from me. If you have any issues that I can help you with, feel free to contact me.
Mike S., ASGRA Membership Chair
