October 2001

Greetings cowboys & cowgirls,

Things have changed greatly for all of us since the morning of September 11th. The USA of Atlantic Stampede 2001 is no longer. We are a stronger nation united in a common goal. ASGRA would like to extend our most sincere condolences to those of our members who may have suffered any losses during this great tragedy.

The Atlantic Stampede 2001 Rodeo will go down as one of our most successful rodeos. Everything went smooth as silk. The preplanning and coordinating skills of Billy Collison & Tamsen Rickets came to light. Thank you, Mr. Rodeo Director. We are truly blessed to have a team of dedicated & professional individuals in our rank and file. Team ASGRA strikes again !

I look forward to seeing every member at our annual awards get together on October 28th. It will be a chance for us to recognize all the hard work that you, the volunteers of this fine organization, do all year long. It will also be my personal time to say thank you to each and everyone one of you.

In closing, let me wish the best of luck and safe travel to all of our ASGRA members who have qualified for IGRA Finals Rodeo which takes place October 19-22 in Palm Springs, CA.

God Bless America.
David C. H, President

Chatter In The Chutes By Stormy & Friends (September/October)

What nice weather Albuquerque had for their rodeo. However the NMGRA members need a little 101 on how to purchase ribbons for Steer Deco. The goat knew just where to hide when one of the certified officials showed up just to sit back and enjoy a rodeo for a change instead of working their butt off for two days. The announcer just could not get the grasp of what was holding the event up until their assistant pointed at the position of the goat…hmmmm. All in all the contestants had a very wonderful time in Albuquerque.

FAHOOCHED… you know the wonderful parties that the ILGRA members can throw! The bar crawl on Thursday night had just one too many sidewalk crawlers to keep up with. The rain by passed HGRA this year only to dump tons of water on the lollypop arena for ILGRA. All of us now know the difference between an exhibition and a fundraiser! Certified Officials can not play in the mud till the rodeo is over. Talk about cozying up to your contestants - it was "rubbing room only at ILGRA's awards banquet.

Trotting along to MGRA rodeo… beautiful weather to be had during the rodeo but like ILGRA the rain goddess made muck of the arena. NSGRA contestant learned what it is like to be grated like cheese on their bronc and then being hard headed about letting the medics carry them out of the arena. Hope they are home taking in all of the help everyone has to offer while they mend. Pucker was heading for a close 2nd in Kansas City as the "in" beverage… not just for fahooched ILGRA anymore! HGRA contestant had a few and lights out! Then the CGRA and MGRA contestant wrestle match brought on quite a show. Seems the stock contractor also got his wish - something about being dipped in honey… What about the Heartland Babes? If you did not see this performance you missed an absolutely fabulous group.

What a beautiful weekend for the Atlantic States (ASGRA) rodeo! The weather was wonderful, with the Dolly Madison event as the highlight on Sunday. In all honesty, it is very hard to write chatter about the ASGRA rodeo due to the tragedy that occurred on September 11, 2001 in the greater ASGRA area. Almost everyone in the ASGRA association lost someone they knew or a friend of a friend. We know through all of the emails that our rodeo family banded together and located everyone that had to travel home from the rodeo and made sure they were safe. We thank you and send our best, ASGRA!

San Diego rodeo weather was great as well. My, my, my - what a pool party on Friday! Seems an unidentified contestant fully cloth tested the temperature of the pool… GSGRA royalty running late for grand entry on Sunday... riding in on a Steer? Medics look real funny climbing the gates to avoid a bull's horn (and the bull was at least 15 feet away from them - LOL). A special "get better soon" to the GSGRA Bronc rider from Sacramento that has a back injury. Another GSGRA bronc rider contestant spent the night in the hospital checking out the nurses after getting their bell rung. We have to say that is the best shiner we have seen in a while! A special thank you to all of the volunteers - with the rodeo running short-handed everyone seemed to be glad to go the extra mile to help San Diego rodeo run smooth.

Alrighty then everyone - Rodeo-up - IGRA Finals 2001 is next on the agenda. LET"S RODEO!!
