2000 was the most financially disastrous rodeo NGRA ever staged. This year a new event moved in to town on our weekend which cuased room rates to soar.
To make things worse, it turned cold and cloudy on Friday and stayed that way thorough Saturday completely wiping out any hope we had of making income.
Sunday was still cold and there were no attendees. We were able to run the rodeo events both days, but it was a cold, wet miserable experience.
That rodeo lost over $16k. Founding member, President and Rodeo Director Ken Carney was both physically and emotionally exhausted from the experience. He took a hiatus from rodeo and because of later health issues, he never returned.
In order to regroup and restore our fiscal health, there was NO Rodeo in 2001. No one felt good about taking on the risk.
