Colorado is very proud to introduce the Grand Marshall for the 2005 Rocky Mountain Regional Rodeo, Kim E. Dawson. Kim has been a member of IGRA for 20 years. In that time she has held many positions and titles that make her the obvious choice as Grand Marshall.
Kim joined TGRA in 1985. She attended her first Rodeo in 1990 where she was bitten by the "rodeo bug". She began volunteering in 1991 where she helped behind the chutes. In 1993 Kim entered the royalty contest in Texas where she was crowned MS. TGRA. As if the responsibilities of royalty weren't enough, Kim wanted to do more. She became a certified chute coordinator that year at the Seattle, Washington Rodeo. In 1993 and 1994 she attended every sanctioned rodeo IGRA produced. While attending all these rodeos in 1994, Kim of course wanted to do more for charity. She ran for Ms. IGRA that year and was awarded the title of 1st runner up Ms. IGRA. In 1995 she joined several other associations, OGRA, SEGRA, NMGRA and ARGRA. The "Hat Trick", as she is known, raised well over $25,000.00 for various charities from 1992 to 1999. Of course she was a contestant at one point competing in Wild Drag, Steer Decorating & Goat Dressing. In 2000 CGRA was lucky enough to have Kim join our association.
Always reaching further, Kim became a member of the Board of Directors for the International Gay Rodeo Association. She was Animal Issue Chairperson 1997-99, Arena Chairperson 2000, Chute Coordinator Chairperson 2001-2002, and Co-Chair for both Arena Director and Chute Coordinator programs for 2005.
Attending at least ten rodeo's a year working either in the Chutes or as Arena Director, Kim has been voted by the contestants as Chute Coordinator for the IGRA finals rodeo eight times and as Arena Director four years.
Kim has selfishly provided many airline buddy passes for individuals to travel to the rodeo's along with coordinating with the Public Relations department at Frontier Airlines for the donation of round trip tickets to help support the 501 C3 charities.
Kim has devoted many hours to the Colorado Gay Rodeo Association and we appreciate everything she has done to further the mission of Rodeo. Thank you for everything you have done Kim and congratulations on being the Rocky Mountain Regional Rodeo 23 Grand Marshall.
This rodeo weekend is dedicated to two remarkable individuals who served our organization and community with dignity, style and love. Their passing leaves emptiness in our hearts, but brings us together in sprit.
