Liz is a founding member of the New Mexico Association of People Living With AIDS, served on its board of directors for several years and still volunteers her services to that agency. She is the director of the AIDS Emergency Project and a member of the Client Services Advisory Committee of New Mexico AIDS Services as well as of several community organizations dealing with reproductive health.
In 1975 Liz received the Women in Health Award, from the American Civil Liberties Union of Southern California; in 1979 she was honored with the Margaret Sanger Award, from the Institute for Family Research and Education of Syracuse University; in 1992 she was recognized by the YWCA with a Women on the Move Award; in 1993 she was chosen for the Larry Peck Award by the New Mexico Association of People Living with AIDS, for activism on behalf of, and service to, the HIV-affected community.
